Superior Boiler Will Demonstrate Latest Production Techniques during October 4 Manufacturing Day Event

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (September 25, 2019) – Superior Boiler will open its doors to the public from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Manufacturing Day, October 4, to demonstrate its cutting-edge manufacturing processes. The nationwide Manufacturing Day celebration aims to inspire the next generation of manufacturers.

“The lack of manufacturing workers is the most urgent need our industry faces,” said Superior Boiler CEO Doug Wright. “Manufacturing jobs offer interesting work and average wages of more than $20 per hour nationally. By hosting a Manufacturing Day event, Superior wants to introduce people of all ages to the promise of a manufacturing career. Our event also will give community members a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at Superior’s day-to-day work.”

Those who visit Superior Boiler Works on Manufacturing Day will see:

  • A brief presentation about the history of Superior Boiler and its mark on the boiler industry.
  • Engineering support functions using CAD and 3-D software applications for manufacturing.
  • CNC (Computer Numeric Control) machines used in pressure vessel manufacturing.
  • Superior’s state-of-the-art CNC Bridge Mill Machining Center.
  • Personnel in highly skilled welding operations.
  • Final assembly and boiler testing processes.

Superior Boiler Works is located at 3524 E. 4th Ave. Those who wish to tour the facility must make advance reservations by calling (620) 662-6693 by 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3. Personal Protective Equipment, including safety glasses and hearing protection, will be required and provided. Persons planning to tour also should not wear sandals, flip-flops or other open shoes.

Opening their doors on Manufacturing Day gives manufacturers an opportunity to address the industry’s skilled labor shortage, connect with future generations, take charge of manufacturing’s public image and ensure the ongoing prosperity of American industry. Superior Boiler Raises $15,000 for Scholarships at 7th Annual Golf Tournament

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (September 18, 2019) – Through its seventh annual “Superior Boiler Shootout” event, Hutchinson’s Superior Boiler Inc., manufacturer of industrial watertube, Scotch Marine and vertical firetube boilers, recently raised $15,000 for two student scholarships. The Shootout, held August 28-29, benefitted the Hutchinson Community College Presidential Leadership Scholarship Program and the American Boiler Manufacturers Association’s Randy Rawson Scholarship Program. Funds raised at the Shootout provided $7,500 to each scholarship program.

This year’s Superior Boiler Shootout also included a shooting event, a new option for those who don’t golf but enjoy sporting guns.

“For the second year, Superior Boiler directed money raised at the Shootout to give deserving students access to additional educational funds,” said Doug Wright, CEO of Superior Boiler. “By dividing the money evenly, we were able to benefit both our industry association and the Hutchinson community. We’re impressed with and humbled by the number of participants in the 2019 event and grateful for their involvement in helping us raise funds for scholarships.”

The 2019 Shootout at Prairie Dunes was Superior’s largest to date, with 40 golfers and 12 shooters participating, including customers, sales representatives, industry partners and key suppliers.

Dalhousie University Awards Boiler Contract to Superior Boiler

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (September 12, 2019) – Superior Boiler was recently awarded a contract for a major boiler room expansion at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Superior was selected through a competitive bid process based upon providing the best overall value for the project.

Superior will supply Dalhousie with two Shawnee model-style watertube boilers, D-type with a square furnace. Each includes Superior-manufactured economizers and is designed to deliver up to 85,000 pounds per hour of steam capability. The boilers will be equipped with burners supplied from Tulsa, Oklahoma-based Zeeco capable of firing on both natural gas and oil, along with an Allen-Bradley combustion controls package. Both boilers incorporate the latest technology to maintain low emissions and optimize operating efficiency. The boilers will be manufactured at Superior’s Richmond, Virginia, facility.
