Started in Hutchinson in 1917, Superior is among only 1 percent of companies that reach the 100-year mark as continuously operating businesses.
HUTCHINSON, Kan. (Nov. 13, 2017) – Superior Boiler, celebrated its 100th year of continuous operations with a special all-employee dinner at The Town Club in Hutchinson, Kansas, Friday, Nov. 10, 2017. During the event, now-retired former employees and current or former military personnel were recognized, and current employee service awards were presented. Kendall Gammon from the Chiefs Radio Network was the special speaker to end the event.
“Statistics show that only one out of every 100 businesses make it to 100 years,” said Superior Boiler CEO Doug Wright. “This is a tremendous accomplishment for both the current and prior employees of this great company. The two main, constant objectives through the years – or century, I should say – can be traced to always listening to what customers are asking for and being focused on delivering the highest-quality product possible. That’s what Superior Boiler is known for throughout the boiler industry.”
Those who received service awards are:
- 30 Years – David Brown, J.D. Haas and Danny Lane
- 25 Years – Alan Reusser
- 20 Years – Mokhtar Matallah
- 15 Years – Eric Canning and James Pankratz
- 10 Years – Ronald Cutter and Mick Jones
- 5 Years – Trent Thurston
Superior Boiler originally began as Superior Welding and was founded by Hugh Gass. The business started in a building on Washington Street between A and B Streets. Today the business is located at 3524 E. 4th Ave., with operations on both sides of 4th Avenue and total manufacturing space of 225,000 sq. ft.
The company was honored to have Gammon give a motivational speech to wrap up the evening’s festivities. Gammon is a devoted father of two boys, Blaise, 20, and Drake, 18. A native of Rose Hill, Kansas, Gammon attended Division II Pittsburg State University. He was a captain for the 1991 Division II National Champion Gorillas and was voted most inspirational by his teammates during his senior year. Gammon spent 15 years in the NFL and is in his 10th year as a member of the Chiefs Radio Network broadcast team, where he does color commentary alongside “Voice of the Chiefs” Mitch Holthus. He has played in both a Pro Bowl (2005) and a Super Bowl (1995).
