Triad Heats North American Headquarters of this Global Fortune 500 Company
Michelin North America, with revenues of $7.25 billion, manufactures and sells tires for airplanes, automobiles, farm equipment, heavy duty trucks, motorcycles, bicycles and the space shuttle. The Company has been a part of the North American tire industry since 1907. To consolidate its headquarters, operations, and manufacturing, Michelin relocated to Greenville, South Carolina in 1988 from New York where it had been since 1950.
Its headquarter building is an incredible 150,000 sq. ft. facility on a 14 acre site. Over the years it has become somewhat of a landmark in Greenville, SC. A year after the move Michelin purchased the Uniroyal-Goodrich Tire Company making it the largest tire company in the world. Headquarters also acts as the Company’s training center for the company sales force and dealer sales personnel from around the country. Nearby are other Michelin facilities for R&D and manufacturing.
In North America alone Michelin now operates 18 plants and employs 22,270. Tires are manufactured in Alabama, Indiana, Ohio, Oklahoma, North Carolina and South Carolina, plus three plants in Canada and one in Mexico.
At Michelin’s Headquarters, Triad has eight Series 900 SH-C-DHW Combination Boilers firing natural gas that are producing both space heat and domestic hot water for the entire facility. Each boiler has input of 900MBH, with a total heating plant capacity of 6300MBH.
These Combination Boilers perform two functions from one vessel. The boiler water is used for comfort heating of the workspace environment, and a large 1.5” diameter, 95” long copper coil is immersed in the boiler water to generate Domestic Hot Water. These indirectly-fired coils provide potable hot water for the bathroom sinks. These rugged, simple yet versatile boilers are controlled by a Triad Control Panel to maximize fuel efficiency.
